Why is it such a struggle to save money today?
Saving Money and paying yourself first has always been difficult but between the political environment, the wars heating up globally, costs rising and salaries not keeping up with them, it does make it a uniquely difficult time to delay gratification for a future version of yourself that may not benefit from the sacrifice.
I believe that saving is less a function of these external factors and more so a function of our values and identity. I decided to start my saving and wealth building journey with my now wife Nneka (girlfriend at the time) 13 years ago. I was broke ....... but I had a strong internal desire to be a young father and be able to run and play with my kids. I am a provider at heart. I'm fiercely independent, I don't like having to ask for vacation time, I hate red tape and I want to live life on my terms. I quickly realized that in Canada, that internal wiring comes at a price and that price is building wealth.
This is why I save. No war, political environment, economy, health event will stop me from living life on my terms, providing for my family or playing with my kids.
