About

As the name would imply, I am the founder of Mark R. McDonald Financial Services Inc. My focus is helping Clients feel comfortable with the planning process. I enjoy helping Clients plan successfully towards achieving financial security and peace of mind. By looking at the whole picture, I can help Clients create a flexible plan that is sustainable throughout their lifetime.  

With over 25 years of experience in the financial industry, I focus on working with:

• young families who are wanting financial protection and the ability to retire with confidence,
• individuals close to and entering retirement who would like to minimize taxes throughout retirement and at death, and
• business owners who are looking to minimize the taxes they pay and maximize their tax-efficient profits

I am knowledgeable, approachable, enthusiastic, and driven. Most importantly, I built my business on trust. Client referrals continues to be the cornerstone of my business model. 

I grew up in Kenora and attended the University of Manitoba where I met my wife and partner. We spent a few years in southern Ontario before making the decision to make a permanent move back home to Kenora where we have raised our three wonderful daughters. I spend my free time on the lake in the summer, or, sledding and skiing in the winter.

I have worked for Sun Life for 32 years servicing Clients in northwestern Ontario communities. I have enjoyed helping Clients achieve financial security. I am also active in providing Group Benefits and Pension Benefits for people and companies small and large. 

I joined Mark R. McDonald Financial Services Inc. as I transitioned from an Advisor to an Associate Advisor role. I take pride in offering great service. I strive to provide the best solutions to help Clients meet their goals. I continue with the same passion in my new role with Mark and his team.

When I am not working, I like helping friends and family with various projects. I also enjoy camping in the summer and cross-country skiing in the winter.

With a background and passion in human resources management, I’m committed to working with Clients throughout their financial education. I enjoy the fast pace, daily Client interactions, and the ever-evolving industry. Holding high standards of Client service and efficiency is something that is important to me.

Although it seems that I have always been a part of Mark’s business, my role has evolved over the years. Currently I am embracing the role of associate advisor. Supporting and encouraging Clients in working towards achieving their own goals and objectives is an immeasurable source of fulfillment.

Although I did grow up and attend post secondary school in Winnipeg, Kenora is truly home to me now. During any spare time, you’ll find me reading, cooking, cross-country skiing or curling, and boating in the summer. Spending time with Mark (outside of work!) and our daughters (and “bonus” kids!) continues to be a source of joy.

With experience as a group benefits advisor and studying finance at Red River College, I am passionate working with Clients to create fluid strategies that change at the same pace life changes. I value the peace of mind that planning provides to Clients. I strive to ensure all Clients feel comfortable with their financial roadmap.

I have joined the organization as an associate advisor, working directly alongside Mark. I’m soaking in Mark’s years of experience so I may provide creative, effective, and helpful strategies for Clients. My goal in joining this firm is to embody the values they established over the last 25 years.

Alongside the new role, I am also new to the town of Kenora. I feel excited to experience everything it has to offer! In my spare time, you may find me at the local golf course or on the lake!

Being passionate in Client service and administration, I joined the team in June 2017 as an Advisor Assistant. During that time, I earned a college certificate in Office Administration, my Life Insurance License (LLQP), and my Mutual Funds License (CIFC). In January 2023, my role shifted to a Service Associate.

I am proud to be part of a modern-facing industry that continues to grow, develop, and evolve. As one of the first points of contact at our office, my focus is to deliver an exceptional experience. In my spare time, I enjoy participating in sports including curling, volleyball, golf, and soccer.

Given my background and as the team’s administrative assistant, I am passionate on what it means to create a personable and high-quality Client service experience.

I am a Red River College alumni with a Business Administration Diploma, major in Marketing. Prior to joining the team in 2023, I enjoyed several years working in marketing and management proficiency. 

I find fulfilment in forming authentic connections, building relationships with a team, and exceeding Client expectations at every opportunity. I take pride in working alongside family and enjoy the unique lens and impact this brings when engaging Clients. As one of the first points of contact, I look forward to prioritizing your experience while working us. 

When I’m not in the office you might find me playing music, enjoying yoga, or dabbling in artwork.
