If your family suddenly lost your income, how long could they keep up with the mortgage, groceries, childcare and everyday bills?
Here’s something many newcomers and young families may not know: in Canada, a life insurance death benefit is generally paid tax-free to your named beneficiaries.
They can use that money for more than the mortgage. It can help replace lost income, pay debts, cover childcare or support your children’s education.
And here’s my tip: don’t choose your coverage based on a random round number. Start with the real expenses your family would need help paying—and for how many years.
Life insurance can’t replace you, but it can protect the life you’re building together.

We work hard to build wealth—but what are we building it for?
For many of us, it’s about having the freedom to see more, experience more and create memories with the people who matter most.
Mitch’s European adventure began in Barcelona —and what a first stop!
From the awe-inspiring Sagrada Família and its stunning Nativity Façade to Montserrat, Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter, beautiful cathedrals, a winery visit and the Arc de Triomf.
And the perfect ending? Dinner accompanied by an incredible flamenco performance with Spanish guitar, singers and dancers.
Travel has a way of expanding our horizons and reminding us why we work so hard in the first place.
As Mitch says: “A life well lived is a collection of wonderful memories.”
Barcelona certainly added a few more to the collection.
First stop complete. The European adventure continues… Stay tuned for the next stop!

When you own an incorporated business, how you pay yourself can affect more than your taxes today. It can also play a role in your retirement planning and overall financial strategy.
A salary can create RRSP contribution room and involves CPP contributions. Dividends work differently—they don’t create RRSP contribution room and generally don’t require CPP contributions.
So, which road should you take? 🚦
The answer depends on your income needs, your business, your retirement goals and your overall financial plan. And sometimes, the answer may be a combination of both.
That’s why looking beyond this year’s tax bill—and coordinating your financial planning with your accountant—can be so important.
🏁 Because it’s not just about how you pay yourself today. It’s about where you want that money to take you tomorrow.

🌾 Wrapping up August with a visit that has become a Reynolds family tradition over the years—the Nokomis Agricultural Fair! 🚜❤️
There’s something special about returning to a place year after year and watching another generation enjoy the same prairie traditions.
We kicked off the day with a pancake breakfast, followed by the colourful community parade—local farmers and businesses, emergency vehicles, horseback riders, vintage tractors, Trans Ams, Firebirds and floats tossing candy along the way. 🚒🐎🍬
And the fun didn’t stop there! We explored the CARZ & More vehicle show, farm animals, games, concession, beer garden and plenty more.
Small-town Saskatchewan certainly knows how to put on a fair! 🌾
Never been to the Nokomis Fair? Add it to next year’s family adventure list! 🌾🚜
Small-town culture, prairie traditions and a whole lot of fun make it a great family day out. ❤️
See you next year, Nokomis!

💛 If you couldn’t work tomorrow, how long would your financial plan stay on track?
We’re fortunate to have public health care in Canada, but an illness or injury can still bring unexpected costs and financial pressure.
Here’s how different types of coverage can help protect your financial roadmap:
🏥 Personal Health Insurance – Helps with eligible expenses not covered by provincial or workplace plans.
❤️ Critical Illness Insurance – Provides financial support if you’re diagnosed with a covered critical illness.
💼 Disability Insurance – Helps replace part of your income if illness or injury prevents you from working.
👵 Long-Term Care Insurance – Helps with the cost of care later in life.
You may already have some protection through work. The key is knowing what you have, what it covers, and where the gaps may be.
🛣️ Your financial roadmap should prepare for the unexpected too.
Not sure about your coverage? Let’s take a look together.

I recently raised the Canadian flag on the side of my house, and I wanted to share why.
For me, it’s a simple expression of pride in Canada and solidarity with Canadians across our great country. 🍁
Canada and the U.S. have had a long and important relationship, but recent tensions around trade and tariffs have reminded me how important it is for Canadians to stand together during trying times.
Whatever our political views may be, I believe there is much more that unites Canadians than divides us.
I’m proud of our independence, our sovereignty and what makes Canada unique as a country.
When I look at this flag, I’m reminded that we can disagree on many things and still stand together as Canadians. 🇨🇦
I love this country. I’m proud to be Canadian and call Canada my home.
Let’s stand together. The True North strong and free. Forever. 🍁🇨🇦

💰 More profit. More decisions. Which road do you take? 🚦
Your business is making money. Great! But could leaving too much cash inside your corporation become its own roadblock?
For most business owners, generating a profit is the first goal. But once more money is coming into the business than you need to run it, a new question appears:
💭 What do you do with all that money?
Take it out of the corporation?
📈 Invest it inside the corporation?
🏁 Put it toward retirement?
🧾 And what are the tax implications of each decision?
There isn’t one answer that works for every business owner.
That’s where financial planning and working alongside professionals like your accountant can help. By looking at your business, personal goals and long-term plans together, you can determine which road may make sense for you.
🚧 Because idle money without a destination can become a roadblock of its own.

💸 Some not-so-fun facts about taxes... because apparently paying them wasn't painful enough. 😅
According to the Fraser Institute’s 2026 Canadian Consumer Tax Index, the average Canadian family earned $121,111 in 2025 and paid an estimated $50,721 in total taxes. That’s 41.9% of income.
For comparison, the same study estimates that the average family spent 36% of its income on food, shelter, and clothing combined.
And looking further down the road, the numbers are even more eye-opening: since 1961, the total tax bill calculated by the index has increased substantially faster than inflation and family income.
🛣️ We may not be able to make taxes fun, but thoughtful tax and financial planning can help you better understand where your money is going and identify opportunities to make your financial roadmap more efficient.
