A guide to family finances and the new CRA reporting rules for bare trusts – are you in the crosshairs?

For the first time, bare trusts are required to file T3 Trust Income Tax and Information Returns for the 2023 year. Deadline is April 2 , 2024.
If Canadians don’t file the returns by the deadline, they could face penalties up to $2,500.
Trusts that hold less than $50,000 in assets may be exempt from the reporting requirements
Example of bare trust arrangements : financial account made by a parent or grandparent for a minor , joint bank account between an adult child and their elderly parent , parent co-signing a mortgage for their child.
